TRADITIONAL HOUSES

We have a wide selection of traditional houses in Lindos which make perfect holiday accommodation for you and your family or for groups of friends.

These unique houses are hidden behind large wooden doors and were mainly built by wealthy sea merchants and their captains between the 15th and 18th centuries.

Many of these houses remain and were restored in the 60's and 70's by artists, musicians and writers from around the world who fell in love with the unique beauty of the architecture.  Others have been part of Lindos family life for decades and are now offered for rental.

The houses have many typical features including the carved standstone arch that leads from the street to their private courtyard. The courtyard will have black and white pebbles (hochlakia) laid out in delicate patterns to decorate the floors.  The rooms are all accessed from the courtyard with the main living room, known as a 'Sala', at the end of the property.  Sala rooms have a high wooden framed ceiling supported at the centre by a high gothic shaped arch.

Traditional Lindian beds, also known as 'panga' are raised platforms with mattresses for sleeping or cushions for lounging. Whilst rarely full of mod-cons, the beauty of these properties is the history and uniqueness and the chance for you to really feel part of life in Lindos.
