NEWSLETTER ISSUE 13 JUNE 2010
With the World Cup being one of the hottest topics of the month, I can honestly say that Lindos is definitely hotter with far more action and at least will give you something to write home about! So if you are ready to hang up your vuvuzela and would rather listen to the sounds of the sea gently lapping onto the shore - even the buzz of a mosquito will be music to your ears - then it's time now to book your holiday to Lindos.
It's been a busy month as always - whatever happened to the laid back Greek way of life? I guess you can take the girl out of London but when it comes to work, there'll always be that mentality to cram as much as possible into one day! So with a busy diary filled with welcoming guests to Lindos, organising wedding vow renewals and wedding receptions, setting up a a new office and an excursion programme, selling tickets for the Rhodes Rock Festival and contracting some new properties for 2010/11, it was a blessing to be able to take some time and relax on Pallas Beach yesterday.
Having moved out of my own villa in Glystra Beach for the summer, and set up home in the heart of Lindos, it's fantastic to be reminded night and day what a beautful village it really is. There is just something very magical about how Lindos really does indulge you in an affair of the senses. From the amazing sunrises when the sea is so calm and silence fills the air to after dusk when you watch the lights being illuminated on every roof terrace and the Acropolis takes on a golden glow. Wandering through the streets brings the scent of jasmine and the delicious aromas of culinary delights being prepared at every corner. Your favourite tunes are being played - whatever your taste in music - and if you are a Rock fan, then this has definitely been your week! Tonight it's time for the Think Floyd Concert which will be held in the amazing setting of the ancient amphitheatre.
| For those who like a bit of action on the beach (no, not that sort ;-) ... then get up off your sunbed and join Lindos Watersports, who are back at the jetty on Pallas Beach. They are ready and waiting to whip you around the bay on skis, a wakeboard or something inflatable. Or take to the (ash-cloud free :-) clear blue skies with paragliding for an unforgettable experience. |

I would like to welcome on board Louise Mahon Dimitropolous, who is now assisting with marketing and editorials and will be our roving reporter for our spotlight interviews. Check out her interview with Tsampikos from Giorgos Bar.

This Month's Lindos Spotlight - Tsambikos Misirlakis - Giorgos Bar
|
|
Giorgos Bar will be celebrating its 15th anniversary this September! Louise caught up with Tsambikos from Giorgos as he began his evening shift after a very long World Cup night the morning before!
|
Lou |
Tsambikos, the World Cup kept you at work a very long time last night? |
|
Tsambikos |
Yes, I left the bar at 4.30 this morning! It is unusual for us to be so late but everybody was having such a good time. |
|
Lou |
Tsambikos, you have been looking after tourists and visitors for how many years now? |
|
Tsambikos |
27 years! I started work when I was 14 years old! I worked in a nightclub called ‘John Player Special’ in Rhodes Town. I really loved that job!! But now, here in Giorgos, I have been looking after tourists for 15 years |
|
Lou |
Giorgos Bar is a family run business – what is it like working with your family? |
|
Tsambikos |
Giorgos Bar started with my father-in-law, George. He owned the building and it used to be a mini market. We turned it into Giorgos Bar 15 years ago this September. It is better to work with your family, to have them close by. We help each other – my wife told me to have a longer siesta this afternoon after my late finish this morning! That’s why it’s good to work with your family |
|
Lou |
What do you want Lindos to be like for your children when they grow up? Will they take over the bar do you think? |
|
Tsambikos |
The bar has the same name as my eldest son. It would be nice if they kept the family business going but it must be their decision. Lindos will always be Lindos, I don’t think it will change a lot for them. |
| Lou |
But you must have seen many changes in Lindos over the years? |
|
Tsambikos |
Yes, I have. I suppose the biggest change for us happened when the tour operators began to pull out. I don’t know why they did that. The people who have been coming for many, many years know what they want from Lindos for their holidays but when the tour operators left, that began to change. I have friends who visit Lindos every year but all of a sudden they find they cannot stay in the village, they have to go elsewhere to other resorts nearby. This is not good. |
|
Lou |
So in your opinion is there anything that can be done about that, to reassure our visitors? |
| Tsambikos |
We need companies like Exclusively Lindos who know how important our friends are and who can give them the accommodation they want. Visitors need to know that they will stay in the apartments or villas of their choice and not be moved to a different place. We need to look after our visitors |
| Lou |
We will certainly continue to try to achieve that Tsambikos. Thank you! Finally, after the long hours of the season Tsambikos, how do you relax in the winter after all your hard work? |
| Tsambikos |
That’s an easy question to answer – we use our winter time to spend more time with our children. After looking after everybody else for so long it is important we make some time for ourselves! |
|
So that brings us to the end of another Lindos newsletter and it won't be long before your July edition will be winging its way to you. We still have availability for July - so whether you want to escape before the kids break up from school or you are bringing the family with you ... give me a call or an email, so that we can get you booked into our favourite village in Greece :-) |
