NEWSLETTER                                                 ISSUE 9                                  JANUARY 2010

Welcome to our first newsletter for 2010 and we would like to wish all our readers and friends in Lindos a very happy and successful New Year.

Well it's been a while since you found your Lindos newsletter in your inbox and I am sure with the weather you have been having in the UK, that a bit of Greek sunshine wouldn't go amiss!  As the snowmen melt and leave a puddle, a carrot and a couple of bits of charcoal, just imagine that this summer you will soon be feeding the carrots to the donkeys, throwing the charcoal on the BBQ and that the puddle will become the warm blue waters of the Aegean.  In just a few months you can swap your thermals for swimwear, snow boots for flip-flops and the only transport system likely to come to a complete standstill will be the stubborn donkey at the foot of the acropolis.

We are very excited about 2010 and looking forward to welcoming back 'old' friends and meeting the new visitors who haven't yet experienced the charm of Lindos.   We were sad to say goodbye to another Greek specialist tour operator who went into liquidation just before Christmas. We want to ensure that everybody is still able to find the accommodation in Lindos that they are looking for.  So Melanie and I have already started knocking on doors and opening up more accommodation for you in 2010.

This month's newsletter includes the first in the series of our interviews with the locals  as well as some useful information for this summer.   We thank you for all your support as we start year 2 of Exclusively Lindos and together we can make Lindos your preferred choice for your summer break.

This Month's Lindos Spotlight - Manolis Pallas, Mayor of Lindos

Lindos Mayor Manolis Pallas

Born in the village in 1952, Manolis Pallas grew up in Lindos and went on to marry his wife Matina in 1984 and to have 4 children called Stefanos, Vassilis, Konstantinos and Anthi Maria.  Following his time in the Commercial Navy, he began a highly successful Travel Agency which he set up in 1980 as well as building and developing hotels and apartments in Pefkos.   Clearly a man who enjoys multi tasking with such a busy schedule, he added even more appointments to his daily diary when he became Mayor on 1st January 2007. He takes a break from his hectic schedule to chat to our roaming reporter, Melanie in the first in our series of locals in the Lindos spotlight!

Melanie: Mr Pallas, you certainly lead a busy life.  What is your most memorable
moment of your life so far?
Mr Pallas Definitely the birth of my children
Melanie:           And what about your best childhoold memory?
Mr Pallas I will never forget building Villa Pallas on Pallas Beach in 1965.  We brought
bricks over in a small boat from the main beach
Melanie: We know that you constantly have new projects on the go.  When did you last
have time for a family holiday?
Mr Pallas 2 years ago we all went to the Greek mainland, hired a minibus and had a
great time touring every day
Melanie: Do you get any time for any hobbies?
Mr Pallas Eating in restaurants is my hobby!
Melanie With eating as a favourite pastime, can I ask what you had for breakfast today?
Mr Pallas Yoghurt, crispbread and cheese and I always have my first coffee of the day in the office
Melanie What is your favourite time of day
Mr Pallas Siesta time!    (Editor:  Those hobbies can really take it out of you)
Melanie How would you describe Lindos in 3 words
Mr Pallas History, Beauty and Civilisation
Melanie What would you change about Lindos
Mr Pallas Lindos, like the rest of the world is already changing constantly and especially in the
world of tourism.  So we really need to encourage the locals to accept that change
happens.  Lindos has an amazing history and colourful past which we are proud of,
but we must start creating our future and not hang on to past glories. Getting
the locals to to move forward can be frustrating at times. (Editor: sounds a bit like those
stubborn donkeys again!!)
Melanie What plans does the Dimos (Municipality) have for Lindos
Mr Pallas We are currently concentrating on a project that will help move Lindos forward, but
first we need to re-establish the identity of Lindos.
Melanie If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you be?
Mr Pallas Lindos (of course :-)

We would like to thank Manolis Pallas for taking the time out of his busy schedule for the first in this series of 'The Lindos Spotlight' where we interview key players in the local community.   If there is someone you would like to see under the spotlight, then please let us know.

Spread the word

If you think your friends, family and colleagues would love a holiday in Lindos, then please tell them about Exclusively Lindos.  If you have any questions or queries about the village or surrounding area, however random - please feel free to ask!

In the meantime, here's to a fantastic New Year with lots of blue skies and warm sunshine.
